Winter Banquet
took place on January 12, 2008. The night was terrific as
members were honored with the Founders Award, Jimmy Duffy Legacy
Award, Bernie Moore Legacy Award, and the Red Arrow Award.
The night was capped by a great speaker, Dr. Franklin Mason.
Dr. Mason was one of the charter members of Santee Lodge.
Dr. Mason told of working on camp staff, joining the
military, and pointed out how the Order of the Arrow is a great
opportunity. He told of his struggles as a youth and how he
made it to Camp Coker as the Bugler. He also reached his goal of
becoming the aquatics director before leaving for the military.
Not only was his speech a look into the past, but it was also very
insightful. He ended with a reminder to follow our principles
and to let the ways of scouting guide us.
As far as the remainder of the night, Winter Banquet
was catered by Ryan's and St. Paul's United Methodist Church in
Florence was the site of Winter Banquet. The Red Arrow Award
was presented to Adam's Outdoor Advertising for putting up billboards
promoting scouting around the council for free. The Jimmy
Duffy Award was presented to Steven Lastauskas and the Bernie Moore
Award was presented to Nick Newton. The final awards, the
Founders Award for youth and adult, were presented to Jay Carlson
and Carl Hughes respectively.
It is worthy to mention that attendance was once again
up with an astonishing number of over 60 people pre-registering
and a total of over 90 people were in attendance for Winter Banquet.
