The Santee
Lodge Legacy Awards were started as a response to a National OA
emphasis on long traditions, legacies of service to Scouting, the
Order and the community at large. A number
of lodges in Section SR-5 have local awards recognizing special
and particular
leadership in service.
Mr. Bernie Moore was selected as the adult award honoree
because of his long tenure in Santee Lodge and his service as Lodge
Adviser multiple times. He has influenced at least two generations
of Scouts and Scouters in the Pee Dee Area Council and Santee Lodge
as a Scoutmaster,
long-time Council Treasurer, mentor and model. Many adults today
in Scouting leadership in the
Pee Dee have been touched significantly by Bernie Moore.
Mr. Jimmy Duffy, honoree of the youth legacy of service
award, has given a lifetime of exemplary service while meeting tremendous
personal challenges of illness. Jimmy has excelled in service in
Scouting, Santee Lodge, the Cheraw/Chesterfield County community
and Camp Coker, having served as a Camp Staff member for many, many
years. He too has inspired at least two generations of youth with
his enthusiastic, loving, humorous spirit and energetic service
well beyond a person of his limitations. He often is particularly
interested and attentive to the youth at Camp Coker, Santee Lodge,
National Order of the Arrow Conferences (of which he has attended
multiple times), First United Methodist Church, Cheraw and in the
Dixie Youth Baseball Programs of Cheraw.
Both of these Scouters exemplify, without a doubt,
truly what a devoted legacy of service brings through the "Brotherhood
of Cheerful Service." |
